Middle Years Programme Years 1 to 5 (Grades 6th to 10th)
As the Middle Years Programme Coordinator I welcome you to this new and exciting phase in your child’s life, one filled with new knowledge, skills and inquiries. The MYP is a programme of the International Baccauralatte Organization designed for students between the ages of 11 to 16. The main objective of the programme is to provide students with the tools needed in order to be successful in school and to be active lifelong learners.
The MYP prepares students with the IB attributes, attitudes and abilities that enable our students to serve in their community through viable and effective actions. Students at Notre Dame International School aquire an international mindset by learning of the world from different and diverse global contexts and perspectives. There are five skills fostered and mastered throughout the five year programme: communication, social, thinking, self-management and research skills. These skills prepare our students to evaluate information and apply their knowledge in an array of complex situations.
All of our year 5 students are required to work on the Personal Project as culmination of the MYP, where they can show the acquired knowledge, skills and IB attibutes developed along their years in the programme. The Personal Project gives students the opportunity to demonstrate skills by investigation, planning, taking action and reflection. It is an opportunity for Notre Dame students to creatively provide a service that benefits the community in a viable and tangible manner.
