History

Our educational program is focused on cultivating moral values and inquisitive minds in students starting from nursery (starting with toddlers of 24 months) and reaching all the way through senior year of  High School (secundary education). To this end, we offer a Catholic based, bilingual, and multicultural program with a rigor to prepare our students for the global and competitive world of today.

Our school was founded in 1991, with the objective of expanding the educational resources in Nicaragua by providing a new alternative for high quality education that supports global awareness and preparedness.  Currently, our student population is represented by more than 20 different cultures from around the world.

The year 1994 marked a large step in our schools’ history with the initiation of the process of joining the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization, and awarded our acreditation in 1995. A globally recognized and respected program, IB holds its headquarters in Switzerland and is affiliated with schools in over 75 countries. Today, Notre Dame is proudly listed as a “World School” and offers the possibility of granting an International Bachelor Diploma.

We maintain a highly qualified staff according to the regulation of the Ministry of Education (MINED) and the IB programme for high school. Our staff of teachers belonging to this group earned Master’s and Bachelor´s degrees from universities in the United States, Nicaragua, and other countries, giving them a global perspective which is reflected in their teaching styles. We believe intelligence is earned, rather than intrinsic, and support classroom instruction that cultivates this growth for all students. Teachers are hired and assigned to classes according to their previous training and title and are provided with ample opportunity to expand their skills in order to provide students with effective teaching and personalized attention.

With a focus on the development of knowledge and character, The Notre Dame School promotes the moral values of the Catholic faith. Offering religious education from an early age, our program promotes the formation of future capable men and women with Christian and moral values centered around peace, love, and respect for others.
